We get asked this almost every day on the phone: do you have a proper vegetarian pizza, not just a margherita with vegetables dropped on top? The answer fits in one sentence: yes, our menu includes several pizzas without meat or cured meats, built on the same 48-hour slow-fermented dough and baked in the wood-fired oven like all the others, with fior di latte mozzarella, San Marzano tomatoes and vegetables that earn their place in the recipe rather than just sitting there as decoration.

What “vegetarian” means to us

A vegetarian pizza isn’t a normal pizza with one ingredient taken away. It’s a composition thought through from the start: one vegetable that brings crunch, another that brings softness, a cheese that holds up to the wood-fired oven without being drowned in vegetable juices. Three slices of courgette on a margherita isn’t that — it’s a margherita someone tried to rescue. Our meat-free versions use the same foundations as the rest of the menu: DOP parmigiano reggiano, extra-virgin olive oil, imported Italian ingredients. We don’t make a cut-price pizza just because it has no meat on it.

The detail depends on what you’re after

Not everyone who asks for a meat-free pizza wants the same thing, and that changes the answer we give on the phone.

  • You’re vegetarian day to day: we’ll point you towards the compositions built around a genuine balance of vegetables and cheeses, which you’ll find directly on our menu and pizza compositions.
  • You eat everything but one person in your group is vegetarian: this is the most common case, and the simplest to handle — a meat-free pizza is ordered just like any other, no special arrangement needed.
  • You have an intolerance or allergy alongside your vegetarian choice: we don’t confirm any special diet over the phone without speaking to you directly first; it’s best to call us before coming so we can look together at what suits you.

If you’re more broadly looking for a vegetarian restaurant in La Louvière, know that we’re not an exclusively vegetarian establishment: we’re an Italian pizzeria-trattoria offering genuine meat-free options alongside a wider menu with antipasti, sharing boards and classic pizze.

The mistakes we see most often

The first mistake is thinking “vegetarian” means “flavourless”. A dough that has fermented for 48 hours in the cold already develops plenty of flavour before anything is even put on it — it’s not the meat that gives a pizza character, it’s the fermentation.

The second mistake is ordering a classic pizza and asking for the cured meat to be removed. The result is often unbalanced: the dough was designed with that ingredient in mind, and its baking and seasoning depend on it. It’s better to choose a composition designed from the outset without meat.

The third is confusing vegetarian with light. A pizza with plenty of fior di latte mozzarella and parmigiano is still a generous pizza. If you’re after something lighter, it’s better to talk to us rather than guess.

How we manage this on-site or for takeaway

If you’re coming with family or colleagues and not everyone eats the same way, that’s no problem for us: we’re open 7 days a week except Tuesdays, lunchtime from 12.00pm to 2.30pm and evenings from 6.00pm to 10.30pm, and a table can easily mix a classic pizza and a vegetarian pizza without any fuss. For a meal with several different cravings at the table, we often suggest also looking at our antipasti sharing boards, which offer an easy meat-free starter that works for everyone.

For a specific craving or a question about a composition, the simplest option is to call the restaurant on +32 64 28 32 73 or email mammamarianet@gmail.com. We’ll tell you what we can do, with no empty promises, and keep a table for you if needed. The restaurant’s contact page is also the right place to book, since everything is arranged by phone or email, not online.
