For a classic meal, allow one individual pizza per person — it’s the simplest and safest rule of thumb. For a group that’s sharing, our signature 60×40 cm pizza cuts into 20 to 30 slices and feeds 8 to 12 people, depending on appetites and what’s served alongside it. In between the two, it all depends on the context: a dinner-style aperitif, a full meal with a starter, or a simple snack between colleagues.

The basic rule depending on the type of meal

At the restaurant, dining in, one pizza per person remains the norm if that’s all the meal consists of. But if you’re planning antipasti or a sharing board beforehand, many of our customers share a pizza between two, especially at lunchtime. At our restaurant, the menu actually offers both formats: individual pizzas and sharing boards. It’s a useful benchmark for calibrating an order, whether dining in, taking away or having food delivered.

For a family meal or a gathering with friends at home, the logic changes. You don’t eat the same way on a quiet Sunday lunch as you do at a birthday party where everyone’s nibbling for three hours. In the first case, one pizza per adult and half a pizza per child is plenty. In the second, it’s better to plan a bit more generously, because the nibbling before and after the meal eats into portions without anyone noticing.

The 60×40 cm pizza: how many portions, for whom

Our signature pizza measures 60×40 cm and cuts into 20 to 30 slices, which works out to 8 to 12 people as a main course. It’s the format most often chosen for birthdays, office meals or family celebrations, because it arrives whole on the table and everyone helps themselves directly — the effect lies as much in the sharing as in the plate itself.

That said, the actual number of portions depends on what else is served. If there are antipasti, a sharing board or a dessert alongside, 12 people can easily be satisfied. If it’s the only dish of the meal, it’s better to plan for 8 to 10 people so that everyone gets enough to feel full. This pizza needs to be ordered 24 to 48 hours in advance, because it requires kitchen preparation that a standard pizza doesn’t — the wood-fired oven and the 48-hour long-fermentation dough can’t be improvised at the last minute.

For a larger group, there’s nothing stopping you from combining several 60×40 cm pizzas, or mixing individual and signature formats according to everyone’s tastes. We’re happy to discuss this directly over the phone to adjust things to your actual number of guests.

The most common mistakes we see

The first mistake is underestimating children. There’s a tendency to plan half a portion per child to be on the safe side, whereas a 14-year-old teenager often eats like an adult. It’s better to go by actual appetite than by stated age.

The second is forgetting antipasti and dolci in the overall calculation. If the meal includes a sharing board as a starter and a dessert to finish, you can reduce the amount of pizza without anyone going hungry. Conversely, if pizza is the only dish, it’s better to plan a bit more than less — nothing is worse at a celebration meal than running out of slices just as someone’s still hungry.

The third mistake, more common than you’d think, is ordering the signature pizza at the last minute. Since it requires 24 to 48 hours of preparation, a call the day before for the next day’s lunch often arrives too late. We’ll say it plainly over the phone, but it’s worth planning ahead.

How to order without getting the quantity wrong

The simplest approach is to call us directly on +32 64 28 32 73 or email mammamarianet@gmail.com, stating the number of guests and the type of meal planned — a full meal, a dinner-style aperitif, a birthday. We’ll tell you straight away how many pizzas or how many 60×40 cm pizzas to plan for your specific situation. You can also check our menu to see the available formats before calling, which helps with planning.

If your question goes beyond simply calculating portions — allergies, opening hours, payment methods — a look through our FAQ will probably already answer what you’re looking for. And if you’re hosting a large group, beyond a simple order, we can also arrange a private hire of the dining room for up to 42 guests, with a meal designed for the occasion rather than just a stack of pizzas.
